The Latest News from Rio Rancho Public Schools

Based upon updated recommendations from the national Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding COVID-19 procedures, Rio Rancho Public Schools has revised its COVID-19 guidance, in accordance with guidelines set forth by the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED). Please see the updated information below:

Effective Tuesday, August 16, 2022, RRPS will not require the following:

  • Quarantining for close contacts of positive cases

  • Close contact tracing and notification of positive case exposure

  • Participation in the RRPS Test to Stay program

RRPS will continue to require the following:

  • Students who test positive for COVID-19 are required to notify their school using the Positive Case Form located on the RRPS website.

  • Students who test positive are required to stay home for at least 5 days. Students may return to school after 5 days if they are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and other symptoms are improving.

  • Students who are returning to school from their 5 days at home should wear a mask while at school for an additional 5 days.

  • Please also notify the school attendance line when a student becomes symptomatic.

  • Symptomatic students are encouraged to test for COVID.

  • Students should not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication or symptoms are improving

***Schools will provide at-home rapid antigen test kits to students who exhibit symptoms. However, supplies are limited and will be distributed until they are unavailable. FREE COVID-19 test kits are also available to be delivered to your home by visiting https://www.covid.gov/tests.

RRPS will continue to monitor positive COVID-19 cases district-wide, and case details and tracking is available for review by visiting the COVID-19 Case Details page on RRPS.net. The NMPED COVID-19 Toolkit will be updated in the coming days. When it is released, RRPS will communicate additional updates to school administrators, students and parents. Updates can always be found on the RRPS website.
